Citation Building
Before an AI system recommends a business, it cross-references directories, maps, review sites, and industry listings to verify that business is real, operates where it says it does, and describes itself the same way everywhere. We build that corroboration by hand.
Included in every Intleacht package. 5 citations a month on Starter, 10 on Growth and Dominance.
Book a Strategy CallA citation is a mention of a business's name, address, and phone number on a third-party website — a directory, a map, or a review platform.
Citations prove a business is real and consistently described. Answer engines like ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews, and Gemini check them before recommending anyone, because they do not take a website's own claims at face value.
A business whose details conflict across those sources reads as low-confidence. When an answer engine is deciding which two or three companies to name, low-confidence loses to better-corroborated every time.
A business with accurate, matching listings across many trusted sources reads as established and legitimate. One with thin or conflicting information reads as a risk, and the answer engine names the safer option instead.
Citations are foundational rather than decisive. They do not win the recommendation on their own. But without them, everything else in your AI visibility program is standing on ground the engine cannot verify — and unverifiable claims are exactly what an answer engine is built to discount.
There is a second layer most contractors never touch. You are almost certainly certified by a manufacturer, accredited by a trade body, or a member of an association — and almost certainly not listed in any of their public directories. Those listings carry more weight than a general directory, because the organisation vouching for you has something to lose by vouching wrongly.
Two kinds of citation, built every month, reported with proof. Volume changes between packages. The method does not.
Every citation is built by hand on directories answer engines and search engines actually index — never pushed through automated software. Automated tools produce sloppy listings that get rejected or, worse, get accepted with the wrong details. Manual submission is what keeps them accurate and accepted.
Listings with the manufacturers, certification bodies, and trade associations you already belong to. A roofer certified by a major manufacturer and listed in that manufacturer's contractor directory is a materially stronger entity than one who is not. We find every affiliation you hold and make it publicly verifiable.
Your business name, address, and phone number are submitted identically across every listing. Consistency is the entire point. Mismatched details are what make answer engines and search engines distrust a business and leave it out of the shortlist.
Before we submit anywhere, we check that directory for an existing listing. If you are already there, we do not duplicate. If what is there is wrong, we correct it to your accurate details rather than adding a second conflicting record.
Details drift. A directory updates a phone number from an old record, a review platform misspells your name, an aggregator pushes a stale address. We re-check your footprint every month and fix what has moved, because a citation that was right in month one is not automatically right in month five.
A report of every citation built, with screenshots and live links, so you can see exactly what was submitted and where. You also receive the login details for each listing, so you own and control them permanently — including after the engagement ends.
Over a six-month term that is 30 to 60 directory citations, plus every authority listing your affiliations qualify you for.
Citations are included in all three packages on a six-month term billed monthly: Starter at $1,500 per month, Growth at $3,000, or Dominance at $6,000, plus the one-time $5,000 website rebuild.
What changes between packages is volume, not whether the work happens.
FAQ
A citation is a mention of your business's name, address, and phone number on a third-party website — usually a directory, map, or review platform. Citations are one of the signals answer engines and search engines use to confirm your business is real, established, and located where you say it is.
It depends on your package. Starter builds 5 a month; Growth and Dominance build 10. Over a six-month term that is 30 to 60 directory citations, alongside authority listings with the manufacturers, certification bodies, and trade associations you already belong to. Together they accumulate into a corroborated footprint answer engines and search engines can both verify.
Listings and profiles with organisations that already vouch for you — manufacturers whose products you are certified to install, certification bodies you hold credentials with, and trade associations you are a member of. Most contractors hold several of these and appear in none of the public directories. They carry more weight than a general directory listing because the organisation has something at stake in vouching for you.
Every citation is submitted manually. Automated citation software produces sloppy, often-rejected listings, and when they are accepted they frequently carry the wrong details — which is worse than no listing at all. Manual submission is what keeps your details accurate and your listings accepted on the directories that matter.
Your exact business name, address, phone number, website URL, and a short business description. We submit these identically across every directory, so it matters that they match what is on your website and your Google Business Profile.
We check each directory before submitting and never create duplicate listings. If an existing listing is inaccurate, we correct it to your current details rather than adding a conflicting one. Duplicate and conflicting records are one of the most common reasons a business reads as low-confidence to an answer engine.
Not always. Some directories list instantly. Others verify a business by phone or email first, which takes longer and may need a quick confirmation from you. You receive a full report with screenshots of every submission either way, so nothing is a black box.
Yes. We provide the login details for every listing we create, so you control them and can update them at any time — including after your engagement with us ends.
Some do, some do not, and that is expected. Many directories use no-follow links or none at all. The value is not the link. It is the consistent, verifiable mention of your business that helps answer engines and search engines trust your location and legitimacy.
Included. Directory citations and authority citations are part of every Intleacht package — Starter, Growth, and Dominance — alongside the website rebuild, AEO content, prompt tracking, and Google Business Profile management. What changes by package is volume, not whether the work happens.
